Abstract:
In an attempt to enhance user experiences, broaden their offerings, and boost operational efficiency,
university libraries have been adopting new technologies more and more in recent years. Significant
advancements like block-chain, augmented reality, virtual reality, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and
the internet of things are transforming the field of library administration. These technologies offer significant
opportunities for personalised services, immersive learning, and effective operations. Their implementation is
hampered by a number of factors, including the need for specific knowledge, high expenses, and concerns about
data privacy. This essay explores the benefits and drawbacks of integrating emerging technologies in university
libraries, focussing on how they might revolutionise library services and the barriers that must be overcome for
successful implementation. By examining the evolving role of these technologies, the essay demonstrates how
libraries can continue to be at the forefront of technological advancements to meet the various needs of users
while ensuring long-term sustainability.
